Wandercraft Personal Exoskeleton Achieves 100% Success Rate for Key Usability Tasks in New Study

New data show high usability, safety, and user confidence among individuals with high-level spinal cord injury

New York, NY (May 14, 2025) – Wandercraft, a global leader in robotic mobility solutions, released new clinical findings from a study, Human Factors Validation Testing of the Wandercraft Personal Exoskeleton, that evaluated usability and safety in individuals with complete or incomplete SCI at or above T6 (sixth thoracic vertebrae).

After only five training sessions, participants demonstrated a median success rate of 100% in executing critical mobility tasks, including setup, control, navigation, and safe emergency extraction procedures in simulated home and community environments. Participants successfully navigated realistic indoor and outdoor simulations, including uneven surfaces and tight spaces.

“This is a major step toward realizing our vision of restoring upright mobility in the real world,” said Joshua Breighner, Value & Access Manager of Wandercraft and study presenter. “For the first time, we’ve shown that individuals with high-level SCI can learn to use a self-balancing, powered exoskeleton independently and safely in the context of daily life. More than just a device, we are building a new category of mobility freedom.”

Study Highlights:

  • Exceptional success rate: 100% median performance across 16 critical tasks (80% for emergency extraction)
  • High user confidence: Average >93%
  • Outstanding companion usability: Achieved 5.0/5.0 rating in remote control usage and supervision tasks
  • Rapid training time: Only five sessions (~1–2 hours each)
  • Quick donning and transfer times: Transfer: 1.2 ± 0.9 mins, Donning: 9.9 ± 5.9 mins

These findings represent a significant milestone in Wandercraft’s mission to bring real-world, upright mobility to wheelchair users. With clinical trials underway, the Personal Exoskeleton is advancing toward commercialization as early as next year, with plans to start working with payors to enable even greater access to this technology.
