Wandercraft’s Self-Balancing Exoskeleton Wins 2025 SXSW Innovation Award for Artificial Intelligence

Wandercraft’s Self-Balancing Exoskeleton Wins 2025 SXSW Innovation Award for Artificial Intelligence

New York, NY (March 11, 2025) – Wandercraft’s groundbreaking Self-Balancing Exoskeleton has won the 2025 SXSW Innovation Award in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) category. The award was presented during a ceremony on March 10, when SXSW attendees gathered to celebrate some of the most transformative advancements in technology across 11 categories.

Accepting the award, Matthieu Masselin, CEO of Wandercraft, reflected on the company’s journey:

"Twelve years ago, we started with a big dream – to make people walk again with the help of robotics. Everyone told us it was impossible. They said it was ridiculous, that it would never happen. And yet, today, we are working with 100 rehabilitation institutions, enabling hundreds of patients to walk again, taking a million steps every month. With the help of AI, we are about to enter the daily lives of thousands – possibly millions – of people. Thank you, SXSW, for recognizing us with this award. We appreciate that you understand that AI isn’t just about automation or virtual assistants; it’s about making a real-world impact for those who need it most.”

Wandercraft has transformed an ambitious vision into reality – helping people regain mobility, independence, and connection with their surroundings. Every month, users take more than a million steps, a testament to how AI-driven robotics can change lives.

Redefining Mobility with Physical AI

Wandercraft’s Personal Exoskeleton is designed for individuals with spinal cord injuries, strokes, and neuromuscular disorders, enabling them to walk with stability and confidence in real-world environments. The Personal Exoskeleton adapts in real-time to the user’s movements, delivering a natural and responsive walking experience across diverse terrains.

This groundbreaking technology represents a major advance in physical AI, where intelligent machines seamlessly interact with the complexities of the real world. By overcoming the simulation-to-reality gap, the Personal Exoskeleton can help ensure that what is developed in simulations translates effectively to real-world mobility – navigating the unpredictable challenges of daily life with precision and adaptability.

A Momentous Evening at SXSW

The SXSW Innovation Awards, hosted by three-time Grammy nominee SaulPaul, highlight the most forward-thinking projects that push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. The event also honored billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, who was inducted into the SXSW Hall of Fame for his contributions to business and technology.
